Why Do I Have Green Poop?

by on February 17, 2012

One of the most common health related questions that people ask is this: Why is my poop green? It might seem odd to think about, but due to the unhealthy diet that many Americans have, green poop has become a far more common problem than it was a few decades ago.

One reason in particular that so many people get green poop is because they drink sodas that are filled with artificial colors. Normally, our bodies are strong enough to be able to break down all of these chemically formed colors before they leave our bodies, but when we overload our body with too many artificial colors, then it can actually change the color of our poop. To stop this from happening, simply drink less soda, especially soda that is colored green, blue, or purple.

Another common cause of green poop is from eating too many vegetables. I know this sounds hard to believe, but you can actually eat more vegetables than your body is able to properly digest. And when this happens, the excess veggies can turn your poop to green.

But, if you do your best to eat right, then your poop should go back to its proper color within a day or two.
